PLASTICIZER CCP CIZER D-810 (DEHT) |
 |
 |
| |
ADEKA PALMAROLE has decided to commercialize a new plasticizer having the reference CCP CIZER D-810 which is a 1,4-benzedicarboxylic acid ester , known also as DEHT.
Not being an ortho-phthalate ester such as those commonly known as DOP, DIDP, DINP, CCP CIZER D-810 can be better compared to other types of plasticizers such as adipates, citrates, sebacates, trimellitates, polymeric plasticizers (polyadipates) and AMG, etc.
Therefore, none of the numerous environmental & health & safety concerns involving “Phthalate esters” (such as those described in Directive 2005/84/EC) are applicable to CCP CIZER D-810 which has already found extended use outside the EU for critical applications such as toys and childcare products.
FEATURES – MARKETS
CCP CIZER D-810 outperforms, or is comparable to, most commonly used plasticizers which are finding use on the market. It offers an equivalent compromise in terms of processing, finished product characteristics and economics. In most cases, only minor formulation and processing adjustments are needed in order to process flexible PVC compounds based on CCP CIZER D-810, thus substituting current plasticizers at equivalent addition levels.
From a technical standpoint, it can thus be considered as an effective alternative to existing plasticizers, such as the “Phthalate esters” for which European demand is significantly decreased due to on-going Health & Safety aspects on products such as DEHP/DOP which has already been displaced by DIDP, DINP or DEHA.
Some of the main properties illustrating the advantages of using CCP CIZER D-810 include low brittleness temperature, low volatility and good ageing performance, good electrical properties, general excellent resistance to extraction (such as with water based eluents) and low plate-out, etc. It is not detrimental to stabilization features imparted by PVC heat stabilizers.
Taking into account low viscosity and viscosity stability characteristics, CCP CIZER D-810 allows processing according to all common techniques involving suspension PVC, paste PVC, PVC/NBR and all rubber formulations where the aforementioned plasticizers are finding use.
In PVC applications, CCP CIZER D-810 may be used in agricultural film, blowing-air swimming pool, sheet vinyl flooring, flexible films, outdoor water-repellent cloth and shoe soles, etc.
HEALTH, SAFTEY, ENVIRONMENT & FOOD CONTACT
• CCP CIZER D-810 is being evaluated within the new REACH initiative. It possesses no environmental and reproductive hazards.
• According to the Scientific Committee on Emerging and Newly-Identified Health Risks of the European Commission DEHT is not genotoxic (like its isomeric relative DEHP). At doses where DEHP, BBP and DINP all altered sexual differentiation, DEHT was inactive.

• EFSA (European Food Safety Agency) has also assessed CCP CIZER D-810 and has recommended that it be approved for food contact plastics with a proposed TDI of 1mg/kg b.w. (SML of 60 mg/kg body weight)

Other listings include:
FDA 21CFR part 177.1210
SGS certificate KF/2004/60851 (non-phthalate)
Tolerable Daily Intake (TDI) & Specific Migration Limit (SML)
of several plasticizers (mg / Kg)
Below is a table of food contact approval conditions for the commonly used plasticizers, according to Directive 2002/72/EC and its amendments, and the current draft 6th amendment which makes reference to CCP CIZER D-810:
CCP CIZER D-810 (DEHT): TDI =1 SML=60
(approval granted for food contact indicating it is listed in the last Regulation (EC) n°975/2009 dated 19/10/09 and amending Directive 2002/72/EC and that substance is now agreed for food contact in EU, with a SML of 60 mg/kg.
